Privacy Policy

Sage Institute respects the privacy of the people who visit its website. This policy describes what information the Institute collects through sage-institute.org, why it is collected, and what it is not used for. The short answer is nearly nothing: standard delivery records, one shared counter, and the mail a visitor chooses to send. No analytics, no tracking cookies, and nothing loaded from third parties.
Scope
This policy covers the Sage Institute website at sage-institute.org and its subdomains. It does not cover Sage Institute deliverables that operate as separate applications (such as Stoa), each of which has its own privacy policy governing its data practices.
What the Institute collects
Standard request data. The website is delivered through Cloudflare. Cloudflare automatically records standard request information (IP address, browser type, referring page, the page requested, the time of the request) for the operational purposes of delivering the site, preventing abuse, and maintaining security. This is the standard log profile of any modern website.
Email correspondence. When a visitor writes to one of the addresses published on the website, the message and its contents are received and retained by the Institute as ordinary correspondence. The Institute uses these messages only to respond to the matter raised and to keep records of communications it is party to.
One shared counter. One page of the website keeps a count of visits: a single number, shared by everyone, incremented when a visitor chooses to mark their presence. No IP address, cookie, or identifier of any kind is stored with it.
Page counts. Each page of the site keeps one running number: how many times it has been read. The count is a bare total, no address, no cookie, no identifier, no record of any particular visit, and it exists so the site can show, honestly, how often its words are being met. Some of these totals appear on the pages themselves once they are large enough to mean something; displayed or not, the total is all there is. The dispersal count works the same way: one number, incremented when someone chooses to print the thesis, holding nothing about who.
The standing place
One unlisted room of the site accepts three kinds of voluntary act, and each keeps exactly what the act itself requires. Anonymous counts: three shared numbers record how many people have taken each stance, and nothing about who. The Wayfarers register: a person who chooses to embark leaves an email address, kept for one purpose only, beta invitations for Institute deliverables. It is deduplicated, never ranked, never shared, and removed on request. Messages and marks: a message to the founder, or a mark offered for inscription, is stored as its own text and read by a person; a mark appears publicly only after the founder approves it, and neither carries any identifier beyond a name the writer chooses to sign.
What the Institute does not do
The Institute does not run third-party analytics on this website. It does not set tracking cookies, behavioral identifiers, or advertising pixels. It does not sell visitor information, share it with advertising networks, or use it for targeted advertising. The Institute does not maintain visitor accounts on this website.
Cookies
The Institute does not set cookies of its own on this website. Cloudflare,
as the infrastructure provider, may set strictly necessary cookies for
security and bot-management purposes (for example, __cf_bm and
cf_clearance). These are required for the website to function
securely and are not used for tracking across other websites.
Children
This website is not directed at children under the age of 13, and the Institute does not knowingly collect information from children. If a parent or guardian believes the Institute has received information from a child, please write to the address below and the Institute will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding personal information the Institute holds about you, including the right to access it, correct it, request its deletion, or object to certain uses of it. These rights are recognized under frameworks including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union and the United Kingdom, and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) in California.
To exercise any of these rights, write to the address in the contact section below. The Institute will respond within the timeframe required by the applicable law.
Data retention
Cloudflare request logs are retained according to Cloudflare's standard retention windows for operational and security purposes. Email correspondence is retained for as long as the matter remains active and for a reasonable period thereafter for the Institute's records.
Security
The website is served over HTTPS. Email correspondence is protected by the standard transport security of the email providers involved. The Institute does not knowingly request sensitive personal information through this website and asks that visitors not send sensitive material (such as government identifiers or financial account numbers) by ordinary email.
Changes
The Institute may update this policy when the website changes in a way that affects what is collected or how it is used. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be noted on the website.
